Purchase of Land
PURCHASE OF LAND WITH THE INTENTION OF FORMING A NEW CEMETERY
Many residents will be aware that the Parish Council has been looking around the village for land which would be suitable for a cemetery.
At the beginning of 2019, following enquiries from the Parish Council and after consultations with a funeral director, the Parochial Church Council indicated that there would be a need for a new burial ground in the not-too-distant future.
Whiteparish Parish Council agreed to begin the search for land for the new cemetery which included many letters to local land owners with no success. Further, a recent survey undertaken on behalf of the Parish Council has indicated that there is very little land in Whiteparish that lends itself to a cemetery. Investigations continued around the wider village, still with no positive responses. A parcel of land became available not far from the centre of the village and the Parish Council began discussions with the landowner. A hydrogeological survey was undertaken, along with submitting an application for a preliminary opinion to the Environment Agency and this piece of land has now been purchased by Whiteparish Parish Council. This land is lying to the south west of Doves Lane, Whiteparish.
Whiteparish Parish Council is hoping to apply for planning consent to use the land as a village cemetery. An initial survey indicated that this land may be suitable for a cemetery, but further investigations may be necessary as part of the planning process.
The Parish Council intends that the cemetery be developed in keeping with its current rural setting.
When the Parish Council submits its planning application for change of use the details will be available on the Parish Council website, on the noticeboard and in the Steeple and Street magazine.
